Conservatives come hard at Scozzafava

The New York Daily News is reporting that Conservative Party chairman Mike Long is making a last-ditch effort to bump Republican Dede Scozzafava from the 23rd district race.

Long (who compared Scozzafava to Bernie Madoff) sent an email to GOP chairpeople in the district urging them to dump her.

“(M)ust there be a split between the Republicans and the Conservatives? Only if Scozzafava is the Republican nominee,” Long wrote.

“By postponing Congressman McHugh’s confirmation, the US Senate has given us all an unexpected second chance. I sincerely hope you will take this time to re-examine the candidacy of Dede Scozzafava. It is not too late to come together behind a candidate who can unite us all.”

“We are confident of our success if we go our own way, alone. But that path seems pointless when the reason for our division would be a Republican nominee who just might be more liberal than the eventual Democrat pick.”

GOP leaders continue to show strong support for Scozzafava.
