“This American Life” focuses on Lt. Gov. Richard Ravitch

Sunday’s episode of This American Life will feature an in-depth look at New York’s Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch.

Ravitch is the “Mr. Fixit” of the Empire State’s political/money problems. He’s credited with “saving” New York City when the MTA was teetering on bankruptcy.

Listen to the promo. It ends with this question:

“Have politics gotten so messed up we just can’t solve our problems?”

Why the quotes around “saving.” Saving the subway system pretty much did save NYC, and contributed mightily to its renaissance in the 1980s and 1990s.
