Senate majority says Ogdensburg, Moriah prisons are safe

This from the Senate majority office this morning. It quotes Sen. Darrel Aubertine, a member of the majority who represents Ogdensburg:

The Senate Democratic Majority announced today they have secured an agreement with the Assembly and Governor which provides for the full and continued operation of Ogdensburg Correctional Facility and Moriah Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility. Together, the Ogdensburg and Moriah Shock facilities support nearly 400 North Country jobs.

“We have reached an agreement with the Governor to keep both Ogdensburg Correctional and Moriah Shock open,” said Senator Darrel J. Aubertine (D-Cape Vincent). “As I’ve said all along, working together we would get this done. The budget will include language for the full and continued operation of these facilities. I want to thank Governor Paterson for listening to the people, giving us the opportunity to present our case and agreeing to take this proposal out of the budget process.”

The press release goes on the quote Republican Betty Little, whose district includes Moriah.

In a way I’m happy for the local DOC guys and businesses and in a way I’m disappointed that no one can make any cuts. We aren’t going to solve our problems by maintaining the status quo.

I guess they’re safe as long as you’re not locked up in them.
