This morning

This morning there’s a good mix of news and human interest, people and places.

We’re all talking about the weather, who wouldn’t be, as the week threatens to finish the way it started — hot-hot and humid. Jonathan Brown reports people are suffering, and looking for escapes. Brian Mann found relief on Noonmark, and caught a thrush singing in the woods, as well a breeze and the great view.

And, there was heat in Albany as well — aides to the governor spent part of theirĀ  schlepping heavy stacks of vetoes upstairs to the legislature — but still no budget yet. Gov. Paterson’s vetoes cut over $400 million in school aid, and some $91 million more from higher education as well as member items. member items are pejoratively referred to as “pork” — but they support lots and lts of the services communities rely on, like libraries, museums and various other civic organizations. More on that as the days go by…

And do take a look at Marquil’s latest cartoon.. a sharp wit and a sharp pencil.

Why would anyone pick a hot day to climb a mountain? It’s not that much cooler on the top and the view is less than great because of the haze.

  2. Martha Foley says:

There’s just no telling about people, is there…?
