Diesel fuel spill on Seaway in Quebec
UPDATE, 11:37am: The Richelieu spilled bunker fuel, not diesel fuel. It ran aground after losing power in a canal between two locks just across the river from Montreal. Seaway spokesman Andrew Bogora says the spill was contained to the canal and never reached the open river.

Shipping on the St. Lawrence Seaway is suspended right now, after a Canada Steamship Lines freighter ran aground near the Côte-Sainte-Catherine lock, south of Montreal.
According to the Montreal Gazette, the ship leaked 50 to 200 tons of bunker fuel into the River. A Canadian Seaway spokesman says the spill has been “completely contained”.
The incident occurs just a week after another ship ran aground in the Chippewa Bay section of the St. Lawrence Seaway. That freighter leaked only corn.
