Gibson, Murphy closing arguments in NY-20

When most of you read this it will be Monday morning, a day before the epic 2010 midterm election.  In the 20th congressional district, that means a final 24 hours of fierce campaigning.

Here’s a rundown on goings-on across the district:

Monday will start big with former President Bill Clinton campaigning in Saratoga Springs on behalf of Democrat Scott Murphy.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will also campaign for Murphy, before flying to Watertown with Clinton.

Meanwhile, Murphy picked up a big endorsement from the Glens Falls Post-Star, his hometown paper.

The difference in this race is that Scott Murphy has been working on solutions, and he has the business background, the political experience, the fiscal conservatism and independence to help bring about those solutions.

Rep. Murphy has been attacked during this campaign for being too partisan and too far to the left to serve our moderate congressional district.

But despite Republican claims that he votes lockstep with the Democratic speaker of the House, neither his comments nor his actions indicate that he’s a rubber stamp on anything.

Republican challenger Chris Gibson picked up a major endorsement of his own, with a nod from the Saratogian newspaper.

Most disconcerting was [Murphy’s] ultimate support for President Obama’s health care reform package.

The new law has some appeal. But it has shortcomings, too, and Murphy’s defense of the law with an acknowledgement that it needs some fixing isn’t enough.

His challenger this time around, Republican Chris Gibson, makes a compelling argument for repealing the law and starting over in an attempt to bring health care costs under control.

Gibson, a retired colonel, is a formidable, interesting candidate whose decidedly more conservative approach would be welcome in the 20th District.

Gibson goes into the final sprint with a 9-point lead, according to the latest Siena College poll.  RealClearPolitics rates this one a “leans Republican,” but all sides expect this one to be very, very close.

Should this race be even close at all? With a Congressperson, who like the Leaders of the White House and Congress arrogantly dismiss we the people?? Should this race be close when you compare the educational backgrounds of the two candidates? I think not since Chris Gibson has distinguished himself as a Doctor of Letters and an author. Should there be any choice remaining after Scott Murphy revealed his true self and his allegience when he voted in favor of the most flawed, biggest spending Federal program of them all…just when we least needed the expense?! We do need reform for healthcare as Mr Gibson readily admits but a gutting of what we had, was that really necessary w/o attacking the REAL problems of Tort reform and competition across State lines?
Senator Salad said it best the other night when he commented that there was no finer, no better candidate for Congress than Chris Gibson, and he called him a Renaissance man, capable of doing and accomplishing most anything. After all, a Purple Heart, not 1,2 or 3 but 4 Bronze Stars and countless other awards …earned all while Scott Murphy was a “businessman” outsourcing jobs to India..with some of his own $$$ Tsk tsk and then he has the audacity to suggest that Chris would do likewise…hold on there Mr Murphy not so fast you just may be confusing yourself with Chris! It appears that you try to look like, act like a fiscal conservative but you just can’t pull it off…those pesky Pelosi votes of yours just keep getting in the way! Just be yourself and feel comfortable in the Obama, Pelosi Reid, BIG spender skin you have been wearing..it fits you to a T.
