Morning Read: Flooding hits upper Hudson River towns

Jon Alexander, now with the Glens Falls Post Star, has been reporting from Chester on the ice jam and rain driven flooding that has disrupted life in that part of the North Country.

Three households had self-evacuated before firefighters arrived. North Creek fire crews ferried four stranded households from the road.

But not everyone would leave.

Longtime Old River Road residents, the Goodman family, refused to leave.

“My son’s got a big front end loader right next door,” said Jim “Pat” Goodman. “He can put me in the bucket and haul me out if need be.”

County emergency officials said they can’t physically drive people from their homes, but they noted that emergency vehicles won’t be able to reach them until the waters recede.
