Kim Smith Dedam is reporting in today’s Plattsburgh Press-Republican that the Olympic Regional Development Authority – which now runs ski centers in the Adirondack towns of Wilmington and Johnsburg — could be adding the Belleayre Mountain resort to its checklist.
State agencies are still working out particulars, according to ORDA Board member Serge Lussi, who confirmed Tuesday that they are exploring a planned change of management for the Catskills ski center.
“It is not in this year’s (ORDA) budget, but there is a possibility that ORDA will be operating Bellayre this winter,” he said.
“(ORDA CEO) Ted Blazer has done an exceptionally good job of running the Gore and Whiteface facility and would do an exceptional job running Belleayre.”
DEC confirmed to Dedam that talks have begun over ORDA taking on Belleayre — now run by the Conservation Department — but no decisions have been made.

The whole idea of having ORDA is a bit strange since the odds of ever again having Olympic winter sports in NYS is a real long shot.
Obviously, Pete, you are not enligthened as to the mission of ORDA.
If I may be so bold, without ORDA, Lake Placid would fold up and cease to exist.
Why is it proper for the State to operate commercial enterprises in direct competition with private enterprise at all?
Cement, you mean without ORDA Lake Placid might be a halfway decent place to live?
