Polar Bear Plunges – Brr!

Jump through the ice in January…would you do that? Have you done that? On purpose?

Plenty of people have, usually as part of New Year’s Day charity events. Here’s Ottawa Citizen coverage of one such event in Perth, Ontario. And the website of the Perth Polar Plunge organization itself. I gather that about 80 participants collected over $10,000 in donations. This year, those funds will go toward supporting a free summer music festival in Stewart Park.

Meanwhile, the Ottawa Sun reports that approximately 350 took the plunge at Britannia Beach into the Ottawa River for the Sears “Great Canadian Chill”, raising $45,000 to combat childhood cancer.

More photos of the Britannia event can be seen at a blog called Megapixeltravel (travel for photographers).

Polar bear plungers: why did you do it and can you describe what it felt like?

For the Ottawa “Chill” event, better to go directly to this page but welcome mat is always open through the main page as well
