What was supposed to be a neutral “meet the candidates night” in Wanakena resembled a heated debate between St. Lawrence County District Attorney Nicole Duve and her Republican Challenger, Mary E. Rain. It sounds like Duve was on the defensive. 

A pesticide truck rolled over in Johnsburg Tuesday, spilling a small amount of insecticide powder. A Department of Environmental Conservation spills response team has determined that the rollover will have minimal environmental impact. The driver was not seriously hurt.

Some Potsdam businesses have been finding counterfeit $10 and $20 bills in their cash registers.

Town officials in Fine say boil water advisories happen much too frequently there.  They say the Star Lake Water District’s piping and filtration systems desperately need an upgrade. But that might not happen until 2015. Wednesday’s advisory was lifted today.

In Washington County, the hours for absentee voting have been extended.
