Rep. Owens wins more Republican praise

Yesterday, we reported that Plattsburgh’s Republican Mayor Don Kasprzak was lavishing praise on Democratic Rep. Bill Owens — who will need GOP votes to win a full first term in New York’s 23rd congressional district.

Now, another local Republican is endorsing Owens’ re-election bid.

Moriah Supervisor Tom Scozzafava told WNBZ news yesterday that he is “impressed with Owens’s performance since he was elected to the seat in a special election last year.”

“He does the job. And not only does he do the job, but it’s direct personal contact and I appreciate that.  It’s not a reflection on the other two candidates, but I’m supporting Bill Owens…I learned early on, I am a Republican and I do believe in Republican policies – although I think the party has strayed off to one direction a bit.  But partisan politics are a huge problem right now, not only in Albany, but nationally. I really believe that has created a lot of the problems we face right now.”

In particular, Scozzafava cited Owens’ work on the Crown Point bridge crisis.
