Tuesday on The Eight O’Clock Hour

The words Nightmare on Elm Street evoke particularly vivid memories in Potsdam. This week, a battered frat house many believe to be the inspiration for the cult horror film is coming down. We visit the corpse in daylight, tomorrow morning. 

Also tomorrow, Gov. Paterson has reached a deal for a Native casino in the Catskills — with a band of Mohicans long ago relocated to Wisconsin. The deal faces federal scrutiny, and could face lawsuits from other tribes who’ve long sought a Catskill location, including the Mohawks.

The DEC says it’ll intervene on behalf of a journalist who paddled Shingle Shanty Brook through a private preserve  for a story on the collision between public access and property rights.

A Scandinavian take on climate change…and winter.  The Wild Center is partnering with Finnish scientists and educators; seems natural for these two cold, snowy and mountainous locales to exchange notes.
