Morning Read: Troubled ComLinks drops domestic violence program

ComLinks has been making headlines the last couple of years for various scandals and allegations of mismanagement.  There have also been indications that the big regional non-profit, based in Malone, faced financial difficulties.

Now the Plattsburgh Press-Republican is reporting that ComLinks will drop its domestic violence program, which includes a safe house (once visited by Hillary Rodham Clinton) in Saranac Lake.

The community-action agency “wants to get back to the basics of what we do best: housing, food and jobs,” Marc “Tim” Lashomb, president of the Board of Directors, said Monday.

The Domestic Violence Intervention Program will be transitioned to a new group determined by Lesley Lyon, commissioner of the Franklin County Department of Social Services, he said.

“The program is too costly for us,” Lashomb said, adding that grant funding received was not paying for all of its expenses.

Franklin County officials are exploring ways to continue providing domestic violence services, according to the article.  You can read the full article here.
