Post-Irene Sunday Round-Up: Flash Flood Watch In Effect

Morning, everyone.  Here are updates regarding Irene and her (its?) aftermath.

1.  FEMA is opening an office today in Keene at the town hall.  Hours Noon-8pm today and 8am-8pm until further notice.  Anyone wanting/needing to talk with Federal officials in person can go there.

2.  A Flash Flood watch remains in effect through the day today and, indeed, through Tuesday.  Showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 5pm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.  Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

3.  The Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting that the town of Jay has set up an emergency relief fund.  Go here for details.

4.  Monday during the 8 O’clock Hour, NCPR will look at the cultural resources in the North Country hit by Irene, from the Land of Make Believe and the Wells Library to the movie theater in Ausable Forks.

5.  The Whallonsburg Grange Hall will be holding a benefit dinner and dance on September 10th to benefit those impacted by Irene.  A spaghetti dinner will be followed by a square and contra dance.  A live band will perform.  Suggested donation $10.

6.  The Albany Times-Union is reporting that a state Task Force organized after 2006 flooding on the Mohawk River to talk about future remedies never met a single time.  The paper is asking whether that lack of action left Mohawk River communities vulnerable.

7. The Saratogian has details about the $15 million in farm aid that Gov. Andrew Cuomo has earmarked for the post-Irene recovery effort.
